In 2011, the Scottish Government promised that they would dual the full stretch of the A9 between Perth and Inverness by 2025. Eleven years later, only 11 miles of road has been dualled. That's one mile a year.
70 miles of this part of the A9 is still the same dangerous single-carriageway road. And it's getting more dangerous. This year alone, 11 people have been killed in car crashes, the most in a decade.
The Scottish Government will break their promise of dualling the whole stretch by 2025. But with the Scottish Greens now joining Government, the entire project could be at risk. The Greens, and their Central-belt based MSPs, don't understand how vital car traffic is for the Highlands.
We are urging the Scottish Government to stick to their promise to dual the full route, and to invest further in the A9 north of Inverness. This will make travel to and from the Highlands faster, safer, and easier.
Likewise, the A96 from Aberdeen sees regular serious crashes and is in even worse state, with overtaking lanes in just a few spots along its entire length. It's badly lit, in poor repair, and very dangerous at night. We're calling for the full dualling of this road together with the North East Conservatives.
