The Far North A9 poll

SCROLL DOWN FOR THE POLL

The Scottish Government undertook a consultation into the national speed limit on single carriageway roads; including the A9, A82, and other A-roads in the Highlands. It closed in March, and we are waiting to see the response.

The proposed changes to the speed limit from 60mph to 50mph would apply for all single carriageway roads to which the national speed limit currently applies. The proposed changes to speed limits for goods vehicles (>7.5t) would apply for all single and dual carriageways in Scotland.

This means the A9 from Thurso to Inverness faces a permanent 50mph speed limit.

The claim is that this change to our road network could lead to a 23% reduction in fatalities and an 18% reduction in serious injury.

However the frustration is that the Scottish Government is focusing on this, and that they do not understand the need for A9 travel in the Far North. There's also questions about enforcement.

Your local Members of the Scottish Parliament want to hear your view- should there be a 50mph limit, or not?
