SCROLL DOWN TO TAKE POLL
The Labour government is attempting to impose plans to use Cameron Barracks in the heart of Inverness, a city of fewer than 50,000 people, to house 300 illegal migrants, without consulting our community or its elected representatives.
Our NHS, housing and local services are already pushed to breaking point. Local people are right to demand secure borders, proper vetting and guarantees for the safety of women and children, not to be treated as an afterthought in their own city.
Highlanders are generous, but not gullible. We have already welcomed Afghan families here legally and are currently hosting over 130 Ukrainian women and children. We have done our duty and we will not be lectured on compassion.
No government has the right to impose decisions on a community without its consent. The first duty of any responsible government is to protect its own citizens and uphold their voice above all else. The people of Inverness must not be bypassed, their consent is not a courtesy, it is a requirement.
