Dear resident,
My name is Kathleen Robertson, I’m a Moray Councillor and your Scottish Conservative & Unionist MP candidate at the next General Election. In this letter I’m seeking local views on proposals by the National Grid to build pylons in the area.
As a part of their ‘Beyond 2030’ report, the National Grid have recommended £58 billion of direct investment in the coming decade, chiefly to connect the large amount of offshore wind farms to the main grid.
If you would like to read the full report, it can be found here: https://www.nationalgrideso.com/future-energy/beyond-2030
A key part of this report is the siting of pylons. I would like to hear the views and opinions of the people who may be affected by these proposals to allow me to better represent the area in Council, and in the UK Parliament if elected.
Key facts:
- The current electricity grid is nearing max capacity, with reinforcement needed as our energy demands increase.
- The connection of wind farms with the national grid is a vital part of the UK Government’s Net Zero target, and the 2035 target for a decarbonised electricity system.
- Communities elsewhere in Scotland have raised concerns about the size and scope of the pylon construction. At 55m they are taller than Nelson’s Column.
On the reverse page of this letter is a short survey with questions about the pylon plans, and a map of affected areas.
Have your say on these proposals!
Yours sincerely,
Kathleen Robertson
