Award-winning Orkney brewery praised in Parliament

The Quoyloo-based Orkney Brewery has won cross-party praise in the Scottish Parliament after receiving an award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The family-run business is believed to be the only brewery in Scotland to have received the accolade of a Golden Award.

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston, who submitted a motion to the parliament highlighting the award, said: “Orkney has a tremendously strong food and drink sector and it is always encouraging to see that reputation being underlined by recognition of this kind."

“I was delighted to be able to visit the brewery a few years ago, and know the huge effort they put in during the Covid pandemic getting beers out to people’s homes and keeping folk’s spirits up."

“Well done to Norman Sinclair and his team for all their hard work and commitment which has led to this very significant distinction.”

Title: Orkney Brewery Receives CAMRA Golden Award

Motion Text:

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Brewery for receiving a Golden Award from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA); understands that the family-run business in Quoyloo is the only brewery in Scotland to have received this recognition, joining a small field of 18 other breweries across the UK to have received the accolade; notes the contribution of Orkney Brewery to the local economy and to the international reputation of Orkney’s prestigious food and drink sector, and commends Managing Director, Norman Sinclair, and his team of staff for all of their hard work, culminating in such a significant achievement.
