Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has said that Scottish Conservative success in two Argyll and Bute council by-elections bodes well for his party in May’s Scottish Parliament elections.
The Conservatives gained a seat in the Helensburgh and Lomond South ward and increased their vote share in the Isle of Bute ward which was won by an Independent candidate.
Mr Cameron said: “These two results in Argyll and Bute have a common theme, which is growing support for the Scottish Conservatives. We are now clearly the main challengers to the SNP here, just as we are throughout Scotland."
“With the SNP embroiled in a civil war, failing to deliver improvements in our public services, and with people here in Argyll and Bute still having to cope with the disaster of the A83 and a deteriorating ferry service, it’s no wonder that people want change when it comes to political representation."
“We are looking forward to polling day in just seven weeks’ time with growing confidence. I suspect the opposite may be true for the SNP.”
