Shadow Health Secretary Donald Cameron has secured a vote in the Scottish Parliament for an immediate public inquiry into Covid-19 deaths in care homes, despite opposition from SNP MSPs.
The Highlands and Islands MSP introduced a motion to the Scottish Parliament after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon refused to commit to immediately launching a judge-led inquiry which had been demanded by grieving families.
Mr Cameron said: “More than 2,000 people in care homes in Scotland, including here in the Highlands and Islands, died from the coronavirus."
“Families deserve closure and that means they must be told how and why decisions were made to discharge hospital patients who had Covid into care homes."
“Care home residents are some of the most vulnerable people in society and if we find their interests have not been protected we need to understand how that came about."
"Last night, Parliament supported my motion for an immediate public inquiry and it's now time for the SNP Government to act, and without delay.”

The fact that the Scottish Parliament has had to force the SNP into doing what it should have done months ago is a mark of just how secretive and evasive this appalling SNP "government" has become. The overwhelming impression gained is that the SNP knows that it made a series of gross errors, with incompetent ministers way out of their depth and unable to take rational decisions as they panicked in the face of a growing crisis - and the last thing First Failure Sturgeon and her hopeless cabal want is a judge poking into what decisions were made, by whom, when and why. We know they have a lot to hide from the grieving families, and there can only be one explanation for the SNP reluctance to come clean.
