Jamie Halcro Johnston MSP said:

"My congratulations to Rishi Sunak on being elected new leader of the Conservatives and the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Rishi represents a rural constituency - one similar to so many of those across my region of the Highlands and Islands - and I know he understands the many challenges communities like ours face."

“He has been a frequent visitor to Scotland in his previous role as Chancellor, and I am sure that he will continue to engage directly and meaningfully with our communities as Prime Minister.  Now we need to come together to focus on driving economic recovery, combatting the cost of living crisis and supporting Ukraine".
