Highlands and Islands Scottish Conservative MSP Donald Cameron has been made Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture.
Mr Cameron was appointed to the new role in a post-election reshuffle by Scottish Conservative leader, Douglas Ross, and will lead the party’s work in opposing the distraction of a second independence referendum.
Mr Cameron said: “The Scottish Conservative position is very clear: recovery from the impact of the pandemic must come before any other consideration. Getting our country back on its feet will require a united national effort, and a laser-like focus on jobs and livelihoods."
“Unfortunately, the SNP are already making moves that would divide Scotland into two bitterly opposed camps on the constitution. We simply cannot allow that to happen and the Scottish Conservatives will do everything possible to prevent it."
“Far better, surely, for the SNP to work with the UK Government, build on the success of the vaccination programme, and deliver the economic recovery that our people so badly need.”
