Edward Mountain, who was ranked second on the Scottish Conservatives regional list of candidates for the Highlands and Islands Region, has been re-elected to the Scottish Parliament.
This re-election was confirmed following a strong second-place performance in the Inverness and Nairn constituency vote as well.
Edward Mountain’s vote share in the constituency vote increased by 7.7% to 12,679.
Across the Highlands and Islands, the Scottish Conservatives have won 4 seats from the regional list, securing their best ever result in the region.
Since his election 2016, Edward Mountain has built a reputation as a successful local campaigner who has fought for improvements to local health care provision and a formidable Committee Convenor who has held the Scottish Government to account on infrastructure, transport and rural affairs.
Edward Mountain commented:
“I am delighted and humbled to be re-elected to the Scottish Parliament for another five years.
“It is a privilege for me to represent a region I have come to love during the course of my life.
"I am more determined than ever to fight for the people of the Highlands and Islands and to ensure our area has a strong recovery from the pandemic.
“During the last five years I have been inundated with requests for help, mainly on issues to do with improving health care, education and infrastructure.
“My pledge to those people that voted for me and my party is that these issues will be the focus of my attention.
“I will not be deflected by other matters in relation to politics as rebuilding the Highland economy, reducing hospital waiting times and improving schools are the issues which matter most."
