Highlands and Islands Scottish Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has been appointed Shadow Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise.

Mr Halcro Johnston was appointed to the new role last week by party leader, Douglas Ross, joining a beefed up Scottish Conservative Finance and Economy team at Holyrood.

He said: “I am delighted to take on what is going to be a an important role as Scotland starts to recover from the impact of Covid. It is to our business community that we will be looking for jobs and economic growth, and it is vital that we for all we can to support them."

“The Scottish Conservatives will continue to play a constructive role by consulting with businesses across the country, listening to their concerns and ensuring the Scottish Government have learned the lessons of the pandemic, putting in place the right support to help businesses through these challenging times."

“Getting our country back on its feet will require a huge national effort, with a laser-like focus on jobs and livelihoods. That must be a key priority for now, and the public will expect all parties to be working together on this”.
