Responding to an admission from Health Secretary Humza Yousaf that issues facing maternity services in Moray, and an increased reliance on mothers transferring from Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin to hospitals in Inverness and Aberdeen, “does not help” overstretched ambulance services in the Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:
“My own Member’s Debate on Scotland’s ambulance provision highlighted some of the problems the service is facing across the country, but most specifically here in the Highlands and Islands where our rurality is such a key factor. We know how delays have impacted on local people and local communities, with some extremely distressing examples of patients being forced to wait for crews or enduring long and uncomfortable journeys in dangerous conditions."
“The Health Secretary’s admission is therefore welcome, however it must be followed up by real action. And it’s that action which is too often the sticking point with this government”.
