Following the election of Douglas Ross MP as the Leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party. The Leader and Deputy Leader of the Highland Council Conservative Group react to the news of the successful campaign by the Moray MP, former MSP and Councillor.
Welcoming the news, one of Douglas’s Leadership proposers, Highland Conservative Group Leader Andrew Jarvie said:
“I have known Douglas for as long as I have been a Party Member, when he was a Councillor working for an MSP. At every level, from Council to Government Minister, Douglas has repeatedly shown his effectiveness, determination, honesty and commitment to those who he serves."
“He has all the right personal qualities and skills to be our Leader and to continue Ruth’s great work. Whether that be his powerful and systematic approach to SNP spin which leaves them speechless on the green benches, or the tenacity and positivity he sets out all the good the Union does for Scotland."
“But most important of all, I cannot understate just how great it is to have a Leader of not just my Party, but as the main opposition in Holyrood who is from our area and knows the issues faced north of the Central Belt.”
Provost of Thurso, Cllr. Mackie, supported his colleague's welcome, adding:
"I am delighted that Douglas Ross has been been successfully returned as the next leader of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party. "During his time at The Scottish Office, Douglas was a vocal champion for rural Scotland and assisted me personally with a number of complex pieces of casework from across the north of Scotland. “Having served as a Councillor, an MSP and a Member of Parliament, Douglas is uniquely placed to fight against the Scottish Governments damaging agenda of division. He has my full support as we take the fight to the SNP in the forthcoming Holyrood election, where only the Scottish Conservatives can stop another five years of SNP mismanagement.”
