The success of Kinlochshiel Shinty Club in winning the sport’s most prestigious competition has been highlighted in the Scottish Parliament.

The club, based at Balmacara near Kyle of Lochalsh, won the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup with a 3-1 victory over Lovat in Oban, the first time they’ve won the cup in its 125 year history.

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston, who submitted the Scottish Parliament motion highlighting the success, said:

“I’m delighted to be able to congratulate Kinlochshiel on their fantastic success, particularly as it is the first time they have won the Camanachd Cup.

“After the issues the sport has faced through the pandemic, with last year’s competition suspended, it is great to see the Camanachd Cup back and a new name on the trophy.

“Well done to Kinlochshiel on their win, and to Lovat for reaching and contesting what was a hard fought final”.

Jamie Halcro Johnston’s motion is provided below:

Title: Kinlochshiel Win Camanachd Cup

Motion Text:

That the Parliament congratulations Kinlochshiel Shinty Club on winning the Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup with a 3-1 victory over Lovat in Oban on 18 September 2021; understands that the Kinlochshiel captain, Keith Macrae, scored a hat-trick and that Conor Cormack from the side was named Man of the Match; notes that this is the first time  that this is the first time that the club has won the Camanachd Cup, and commends the players from both teams for such a well-fought game.
