Matheson fails to commit to Rest and Be Thankful timescale

Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has described the failure of Transport Secretary Michael Matheson to commit to a timescale for providing a permanent solution to the problems afflicting the A83 trunk road as a “dereliction of duty.”

Mr Matheson was unable to provide a timescale despite being specifically asked to do so earlier today at a meeting of Holyrood’s Rural Economy and Connectivity Committee.

“Despite being challenged directly he still refused point-blank to even give an indication of when we can expect to see a permanent solution to the ongoing disaster that is the Rest and Be Thankful."

“Frankly, it amounts to a dereliction of duty by a minister who himself described the condition of the road as ‘unacceptable’ and as an ‘emergency’."

“The SNP have had 14 years to fix the A83. That is more than enough time to persuade anybody that the A83 is not, and never has been, a priority for them.”

The session dealing with the A83 can be viewed here: https://www.scottishparliament.tv/meeting/rural-economy-and-connectivity-committee-march-10-2021  from 11.18.30
