MSP responds to Scotrail plans to cut ticket office opening times

ScotRail ticket office cuts

Responding to news that ScotRail is to go ahead with plans to cut opening times for some local railway stations, Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:

“These cuts to local ticket office hours are deeply disappointing and are part of a continuing running down of our rail services since SNP ministers nationalised ScotRail.

“Kingussie Station will lose over 27 hours of the ticket office being open, while Dingwall will lose over 29 hours.

“These cuts risk reducing accessibility and safety, with the concern that more vulnerable passengers – such as older and disabled people, and women and children travelling alone – could feel less safe, especially during the colder and darker winter months.

“Once again, the SNP Government has shown its willingness to allow rural services to be cut regardless of the potential impact on local communities”.

This comes on top of recent news that since being nationalised by the SNP, Scotrail cost £600 million more to run than it did under Abellio, clear evidence that the Nationalists have lost control of spending on the railway.
