Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has welcomed a £12.5m award being made to the Cairngorm National Park Authority which will contribute to a range of outdoor health programmes including a new nature-based centre for dementia care.

Mr Halcro Johnston, who submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament highlighting the award made by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, also welcomed the creation of twelve new jobs which will be created locally.

He said: “I am particularly pleased to see the imaginative and progressive approach being taken to dementia care."

“We know that immersion in the natural world is good for us, and nowhere can that be better achieved than in the Cairngorms National Park which encompasses an area of extraordinary landscape beauty with amazing wildlife."

“I very much hope that the new centre will provide more people with the opportunity to experience nature and that it leads to better health and welfare outcomes for all concerned.”
