Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron commented: “The report that mechanical breakdowns of CalMac ferries were up by a third last year will come as no surprise to regular passengers."

“The sad fact is that the CalMac fleet – which now has an average age of 23 years -  has been neglected at the same time as the procurement of two new vessels has been an extraordinary shambles, with almost daily revelations about how the SNP Government has mishandled the process."

“At the end of the day, this has serious implications for the island communities which are being affected."

“Nicola Sturgeon and her ministers still don’t seem to understand that a reliable and resilient ferry service is not an optional extra for our rural and remote communities, which are faced with the threat of depopulation and the loss of our young people.”
