The success of a local project to install nesting boxes at schools in the Highlands has been highlighted at the Scottish Parliament. The Highland Primary Schools Birdbox project, led by Tom Rawson, and supported by the Highlands and Islands Environment Foundation, recently installed its thousandth bird box at a local school.
Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron, who submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament congratulating the project on its success, said:
“This is a tremendous way of strengthening the link between our young people and the natural world.
“Watching the activity of the parent birds as they raise their families from egg to fledgling, provides an unbeatable way for teachers to engage the interest of their pupils in the lifecycle of the birds.
“My congratulations go to Tom and I wish him every success as he seeks to deliver this very worthwhile scheme to schools in other local authority areas.”
