Robert Jenrick MP out campaigning with Councillor Ruraidh Stewart

Robert Jenrick MP joined Councillor Ruraidh Stewart, Scottish Conservative Holyrood candidate for Inverness and Nairn last weekend.

The MP for Newark and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice was in the Highlands to attend the Highland Conservative and Unionist Association's annual conference. After addressing local members in Inverness, Jenrick joined Conservative Council Group leader, Councillor Ruraidh Stewart, in Nairn to support Stewart's bid to become an MSP.

Stewart, Jenrick and local Conservative Councillors, including Councillor Elaine Kirby, Scottish Conservative Holyrood candidate for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross spoke with residents of Nairn, listening to local residents' concerns regarding a lack of progress with the Nairn bypass and disappointments in both the SNP and Labour Governments.

Councillor Ruraidh Stewart said: “It was great to have Robert Jenrick show his support for my campaign to represent the people of Inverness and Nairn in Holyrood.

“The fact he travelled so far to support the campaign, and the Highland Conservatives speaks volumes about the Conservatives commitment to working hard and winning back votes in Scotland.

“For too long, the SNP, Labour and the Lib Dem's have taken voters in the Highlands for granted. If they really believe a few slogans can compensate for years of consistent underfunding and overall disaster, then they are truly beyond disconnected.”

“We need to deliver the A9, the A96, and the Nairn bypass. These roads aren’t a Wishlist, they are lifelines. They connect our towns, support our businesses, and get families to work, school and hospital appointments. But after 18 years of SNP rule, we’ve had nothing more than dither and delay. The A9 remains unfinished. The A96 is stalled. And Nairn is still stuck in traffic. Millions spent on consultants. Countless announcements. But not a mile of new tarmac laid between Inverness and Nairn.”

“I am determined to ensure that every Highlander has their voice heard in Holyrood. That is what I will deliver if elected.”
