The Shadow Health Secretary, Donald Cameron, has said that much more must be done to ensure that vulnerable housebound people receive Covid vaccinations.
Mr Cameron said that he shared growing concern among GPs that the Scottish Government’s focus on mass vaccination centres was leading to people who cannot easily travel being left unvaccinated.
The Highlands and Islands MSP said: “It is extremely worrying that GPs are openly expressing their concerns about the way the Scottish Government is rolling out the vaccine programme.
“Indeed they have gone so far as to say that some vulnerable people have been left feeling ‘abandoned and forgotten’."
“It was therefore extremely disappointing that the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jeane Freeman, was so dismissive when I raised this matter with her in the Scottish Parliament earlier today."
“Her reaction will have done little to reassure those needing vaccinations, and their carers and relatives, or indeed the GPs themselves, that the Scottish Government intends to address their concerns."
“The centralising approach adopted by the SNP simply will not work in rural areas and we badly need to see some signs that they understand this.”
