SNP “betrayed fishermen” over Fisheries Bill – Cameron

Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has said that coastal communities in his region are feeling betrayed after SNP MPs voted to block legislation that will replace the Common Fisheries Policy.

The Scottish Conservative MSP said: “Fishing communities the length of the Highlands and Islands are yearning for the day when the UK becomes an independent coastal state once more."

“They are horrified that SNP politicians at Westminster have betrayed them by voting against the Fisheries Bill which will give us back control over our fishing waters."

“European management of our fisheries has been a disaster for the Scottish industry which is why the Scottish  Fishermen’s Federation urged all Scottish MPs to vote for the bill."

“Frankly, the SNP have betrayed our fishing communities.”

HCUA Comment

Mr Cameron made his comments after the second reading of the Fisheries Bill earlier this week, a vital Bill which paves the way for the UK taking back control of its waters after Brexit and after decades of mismanagement under the hated and failed EU Common Fisheries Policy.

The Bill passed its second reading in the House of Commons by 366 votes to 51, with the treacherous anti-fishing SNP and Plaid Cymru voting against the legislation.  Most Labour MPs did not bother to vote - once again demonstrating that Labour has no interest in supporting our fishing industry, or indeed anything else of value to the UK economy.
