Shadow Finance Secretary Donald Cameron has given a warm welcome to an announcement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer that an extra £600m will be coming to Scotland to help in the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Cameron, a Highlands and Islands MSP, said: “Our public services are under unprecedented pressure keeping us as safe as possible and we are all incredibly grateful for everything that is being done."

“However, this costs money, and I therefore very pleased that the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has made the announcement that substantial extra funding is being made available."

“At a time like this, it is right that the full resources of the United Kingdom are mobilised in this fight and that includes our financial resources.”

HCUA Comment:

Even the most blinkered, ideologically-obsessed and Westminster-hating SNP politicians - and there are many - must see the benefit that the Union brings in a crisis like the one we are in at present.

It would be nice to hear just one of them admitting this in public.

Perhaps now some of them might even be able to admit too that such benefits also apply in more normal times - but don't hold your breath on that one.......
