MSP seeks assurances from Scottish Government on plans for Inverness Airport Rail Station

During a session of Portfolio Questions at Holyrood, Edward Mountain, Highlands and Islands MSP, has asked the Scottish Government when the proposed Inverness Airport Rail Station will be completed .

Edward Mountain is seeking assurances from the Scottish Government that the project is still on the table after it emerged that planning permission is set to expire in the next few months.

Edward Mountain MSP commented:

“It is vital that more progress is made on the Inverness Airport Rail Station.

We have seen this Scottish Government dither and delay on infrastructure projects in the Highlands before, with the long-delayed new prison in Inverness a prime example.

That cannot be allowed to happen with another key project in the Highlands.

I will be seeking assurances from the Cabinet Secretary that, as soon as Network Rail have updated their design proposals, this Scottish Government will invest in the project so that construction can begin straight away.

A new railway station, which must be built on the same side as the airport terminal, has the potential to boost the Highland economy and make travelling to and from the region far easier for air passengers.”
