The Prime Minister has announced that Armed Forces personnel resident in Scotland will never have to pay the SNP’s higher taxes.

Thanks to the SNP’s misguided decision to make Scotland the highest-taxed part of the UK, Service Personnel living in Scotland faced getting taxed a great deal more than their comrades in other parts of the UK - by up to £2,200 each. 

Such an unreasonable additional tax burden is just not fair to those who serve where their country needs them, not necessarily where they choose to go. 

That is why over the past two years the UK Government has repaid the extra SNP tax - so that our Service Personnel are not penalised for living in Scotland while doing their duty.

We will now ensure that this tax mitigation is permanent, giving certainty to all our Service Personnel that they will never have to pay the SNP’s higher taxes.

The profligate and incompetent SNP has had to raise taxes because Nicola Sturgeon has been obsessed with another divisive referendum, harming our economy, our public services and our democracy.
 

Only the Scottish Conservatives have the strength to stand up to Sturgeon, stop indyref 2, get Brexit done, and use the strength of the Union to help build a better, more prosperous Scotland.
