Highlands and Islands MSP, Edward Mountain, has today raised a mug in support of Macmillan’s 30th Coffee Morning and is encouraging his constituents to do the same.
The annual event is dedicated to bringing people together over a cuppa to raise vital funds for the cancer charity. Edward Mountain took to social media to #RaiseAMug in support for the 250,000 people in Scotland living with cancer.
Edward Mountain MSP held a virtual coffee morning with his parliamentary staff and, in a video posted to social media, said:
“This is a charity that is very close to my heart because it supports people when they really need them. So let’s raise a mug to Macmillan and hope they have a happy coffee morning.”
Every 90 seconds someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. Macmillan is doing everything it can to provide vital emotional, financial or clinical support for people living with cancer who are going through a challenging time.
This year is more important than ever to support Macmillan’s flagship Coffee Morning, one of the UK’s longest-running fundraising events.
Due to coronavirus the event is facing a staggering 71% income drop of £20 million, the entire running of the Macmillan Support line for over three years. A fundraising fall of this magnitude could risk more than 80,000 cancer patients missing out on support from a Macmillan nurse next year.
