Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron is backing the demand of Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross that the furlough scheme should be extended to Scotland in the event of a national lockdown.

Mr Cameron said: “The UK Government’s furlough scheme has been a lifeline here in Scotland, helping to protect hundreds of thousands of jobs which might otherwise have been lost."

“If Scotland ends up in a second lockdown, as England is, then we absolutely must see the scheme apply here as well."

“Douglas is absolutely right to make this demand: we need to lever the economic strength of the United Kingdom in order to protect jobs and livelihoods across the Highlands and Islands.”
