Highlands and Islands MSP, Edward Mountain has cautioned airline companies to avoid charging exorbitant prices for flight bookings to Inverness, between the 23rd to 27th December, when many people are expected to travel as restrictions are relaxed for Christmas.

According to flight search engine, Skyscanner, a single adult could be looking to pay up £403for a return British Airways direct flight to Inverness Airport from London Heathrow.

Edward Mountain MSP is urging all airline companies to avoid over-charging customers who intend to travel during the five-day Christmas window.

Edward Mountain MSP commented:

“Airline companies which are tempted to charge sky-high prices for domestic trips need to think again.”

“In one example from today, we have seen British Airways charge over £400 for a return flight to Inverness.”

“I hope this is a just a one-off because that’s more expensive than the cost of a transatlantic flight from London to New York.”

“Many airlines have been supported by Covid-19 emergency loans and funding from the UK Government. They should return the favour by supporting their customers, not shamelessly ripping them off.”

“There will be many Highlanders who wish to return home to visit their family for Christmas and they only have a small window of opportunity to do so. Let’s not put them off with excessive flight prices.”
