Jamie Halcro Johnston, Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy and Tourism, has commented after taking part in today’s debate in the Scottish Parliament on the management of the procurement of two new ferries by the Scottish Parliament’s Rural Economy and Connectivity (REC) Committee.

Mr Halcro Johnston said:

“At the heart of this SNP ferries fiasco is two vessels which, instead of sailing the waters of Clyde and Hebrides, are left sitting on the banks of the Clyde as grandiose monuments to SNP incompetence."

“And, while Scottish ministers have created a legacy of evasion and blame-shifting, the island communities the ships were meant to already be serving have been left without."

“Time and again, this SNP government has shown itself to lack any sort of long-term or strategic view of ferry transport in Scotland, resulting in poor decisions, short-term fixes and the needs of islands communities being ignored."

“With the ships now five years late and millions over budget, the minister with responsibility for ferries, Paul Wheelhouse, is fast gaining a reputation as the Minister for Delays”.
