Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has written to the Scottish Government urging the SNP to provide the financial support to B&Bs and guesthouses that pay council tax, which was promised to them over a month ago.
The Scottish Conservative MSP said that he has been contacted by numerous local constituents who have been frustrated by their inability to access the funding despite it being announced to a fanfare of publicity on 21st January by the Tourism Minister, Fergus Ewing.
Mr Cameron said: “Many small accommodation providers are facing real financial hardship, and badly need support to tide them over. Yet despite all the promises, which now date back to January, whenever they try to access funding from their local authority they find it is unavailable as councils are still awaiting clarity from the Scottish Government."
“This simply isn’t good enough and the minister has to now deliver on his promise."
“We all know that the SNP is distracted by its internal civil war, and is wasting time on preparing an unwanted independence referendum, but that is no excuse for this delay in providing support for our small businesses on which so many people rely for employment and income.”
