Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has expressed disappointment after he was unable to elicit a meaningful response from a Scottish Government minister about upgrading Oban’s police station.

The Scottish Conservative MSP asked the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Keith Brown, yesterday (Wed 6th October) for an account of progress in improving facilities for staff after the station was described by the Scottish Police Federation in 2019 as ‘by far and away the worst police station they have encountered’.

Mr Cameron said: “It is very disappointing that, two years after I raised the Scottish Police Federation’s concerns about the condition of Oban Police Station, the minister was still unable to provide any meaningful update or indicate a date when we would have a fit-for-purpose station in Oban. He didn’t even give me an explanation for why it was taking so long to make progress."

“Sadly, as is so often the case, all we got was an attempt to deflect responsibility for his failure to take action.  Police officers have a very demanding job to do and they deserve better than this tardy response from the minister who is charged with protecting their well-being.”
