Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron is urging local people to respond to proposals to introduce legislation designed to tackle fly-tipping.

Mr Cameron said that a draft Member’s bill, introduced by fellow Scottish Conservative MSP, Murdo Fraser, provides an ideal opportunity for local people to contribute their own ideas to dealing with the “scourge” of fly-tipping.

He said: “Littering and fly-tipping is inexcusable: it harms the environment, blights some of our most beautiful areas, and causes considerable distress to local people.

“This is why I so strongly welcome Murdo’s initiative which aims to do something effective about tackling the scourge of this anti-social behaviour.

“I very much hope that concerned people across the Highlands and Islands take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the consultation period which has now begin.

“The survey can be accessed online at: www.parliament.scot/bills-and-laws/proposals-for-bills/proposed-fly-tipping-scotland-bill “
