Highlands and Islands Scottish Conservative MSP Donald Cameron is backing his party’s plans to introduce an “Open the Books” Bill to increase the financial transparency of the Scottish Government.
Mr Cameron said that the public was losing faith in the Scottish Government’s commitment to being open with them, with its lack of transparency over the ongoing ferry crisis being the final straw for many local people.
He said: “Even after a lengthy debate in the Scottish Parliament on the ferry debacle, we still don’t know who actually signed off on the agreements which are costing the taxpayer millions of pounds.
“After 15 years in power the SNP Government has become arrogant and out-of-touch, with ministers more likely to complain about being questioned, rather than provide answers.
“This is why we need an Open the Books Bill to strengthen financial transparency and government accountability.”
