Commenting on NHS Highland’s announcement that the completion date for the new Belford hospital in Fort William will be pushed back by two years to 2028, Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:

“For years, the Belford has failed to meet the requirements of a modern hospital and is now completely unsuitable for serving the needs of the population of Lochaber and beyond.  Sadly this announcement will come as little surprise to local people, who have seen years of inactivity on the new construction. We are now looking at buildings that should have been replaced not just years, but decades ago – and are only getting worse."

“The Scottish Government doesn’t have a great record with hospital building in recent years, but it is absolutely vital that the health secretary intervenes to support NHS Highland in getting things moving.  The people of Lochaber have waited far too long.”
