Vandalised parking machine.

Skye Conservative Councillor Ruraidh Stewart has strongly denounced vandalism at the iconic Quiraing Car Park.

The car park, which is managed by Highland Council generates income that directly supports the local crofting community.

Councillor Stewart said "The act of vandalism is not just about damaging property; it's a direct attack on the heart of our community, The car park generates essential funds for local crofters and helps to support sustainable growth in this area. Repairing the damaged machines will unfairly eat into the funds meant to benefit this community."

In a direct appeal to those responsible, the Councillor stressed, “Your actions are robbing our hard-working communities of essential financial support.  This is a selfish act, completely out of step with the values of our community.”

Councillor Stewart highlighted a broader concern about sustainable tourism, given that Skye it is the second most visited destination in Scotland after Edinburgh. He raised concerns about the SNP/Green Government's decision to withdraw funds for the essential outdoor access ranger service

The access ranger team, established three years ago, played a crucial role in tackling 'dirty camping' and promoting responsible use of the countryside. This team's work, vital for environmental stewardship and community wellbeing, was made possible through close collaboration with emergency services, council officials, and local stakeholders. However, the SNP/Green government's decision to cut this essential service is a short-sighted move that neglects the needs of the community and the environment. It's a disappointing reflection of their priorities, indicating a concerning disregard for the long-term health and sustainability of our local areas

"The cut to the ranger service is a major setback for our community and environment," stated Councillor Stewart. "I'm deeply concerned that without our rangers, we'll see a rise in irresponsible behaviour"

Police Scotland has been notified of the incident and anyone with relevant information should contact them via 101.
