orkney

Orkney Islands Council has confirmed a council tax rise of 15% for households across the county, following a vote of local councillors.

The 15% rise was passed by 15 votes to six at a meeting of the full Orkney Islands Council, defeating an amendment for a lower rise of 11%.

This is one of the largest confirmed Council tax increase in Scotland. The 15 per cent increase will take the average band D bill in Orkney to £1,574.60 per year.

It is estimated that each percentage point increase is worth an additional £115,000 for Orkney Islands Council.

Have your say on this increase. Is it worth it?
